Representing the NCCR Evolving Language at Scientifica26
Between the 28th and the 30th of August 2026, researchers from the NCCR Evolving Language got to showcase the research conducted in the consortium to the visitors of Scientifica26, a science fair that amassed 40’000 visitors this year! Through five activities on the NCCR booth, interesting discussions sparked.
Presenting the work of the NCCR Evolving Language at Scientifica 2026.
- Exploring word learning features.
- Discovering stone-toolmaking.
- Coming up with new words.
- Recognizing animal vocalizations.
- Training the brain to read better.
- Recognizing individuals from their caracteristics.
On the NCCR booth, visitors were able to discuss with researchers from various fields of work like computational sciences, neurosciences, psychology, biology or linguistics.
They could also try out a wide range of activities: playing a video game designed to better reading as well as testing their focus abilities, discovering stone-toolmaking and its evolution in parallel to language, coming up with new words, learning about fieldwork and putting their capacities to recognize individuals in a group of animals to the test, or exploring the parameters that make it easier for children to learn new words.
