Transversal Task Forces (TTF)

Transveral Tasks Forces are transdisciplinary research groups, that provide support to the NCCR Evolving Language tasks, on specific subjects.

TTF Ethics

The goals of TTF Ethics are to provide ethics consultation, including research ethics; to survey new technical developments in evolutionary language science and reflect on their potential ethical implications; and to examine the ethical implications of scientific inputs for the philosophical aspects of applied ethics.

TTF Concepts P2

TTF Concepts

The TTF Concepts aims to identify and clarify the relevant theoretical boundaries with empirically-informed concepts across the three main modes of evolution (i.e., biological, linguistic, cultural). Their goal is to provide an integrated conceptual framework for representing various kinds of evolutionary processes and a more fine-grained understanding of the relevant evolutionary dynamics. They help the NCCR community foster cross-disciplinary dialogue and mutual understanding, by offering conceptual and terminological advice.

TTF DataScience

The TTF DataScience develops methods and provides hands-on services to research groups on issues of databases, machine learning, and statistics. Its missions are to advance the science of language evolution and to promote the adoption of state-of-the-art tools. It maintains databases of maximally diverse human languages and multi-species animal vocalizations. TTF Instrumentation

The remit of TTF Instrumentation is to support the NCCR in non-invasive data acquisition, adapting and further developing the relevant technology and recording protocols. It also aims to create networks of monitoring devices that obtain time-stamped data with sufficient resolution and density to individuate and localise sources, especially under difficult field conditions, and develop technology for simultaneous data collection. Finally, it collects augmented language development and social interaction data in cross-linguistic settings worldwide.

TTF DigitalDataGeneration

The TTF DigitalDataGeneration’s remit is joint, computer-based task development across WPs, to provide the NCCR community a database of tasks that is dynamically searchable and user-friendly with accompanying documentation and guidelines.
