Primatology in the Spotlight in Neuchâtel
Primatologists from Lyon, Zurich and Neuchâtel will meet from September 9 to 11 at the Muséum d’histoire naturelle de Neuchâtel. Co-organized by the latter institution and the University of Neuchâtel, this symposium will serve as the scientific component of the “PRIMATES” exhibition, which is on view at the Museum through September 20.

3 days to talk about research
At the University of Neuchâtel (UniNE), the Compared Cognition Laboratory, led by Klaus Zuberbühler, has for several decades specialized in the biological origins of language, a field in which primates play a key role. During the three-day conference, research projects from NCCR Evolving members will be presented on this topic.
Public conferences
The event also includes 3 public conferences that conclude the PRIMATES exhibition. On Wednesday, September 9, at 6:30 p.m., American primatologist Robert Seyfarth will present his research on the social behaviors of great apes in English. On Thursday, September 10, at 6:30 p.m., Sabrina Krief of the Muséum de Paris will discuss self-medication among primates. Finally, on Wednesday, September 16, at 12:30 p.m., Emilie Genty, a primatologist at the University of Neuchâtel, will discuss the gestural communication of great apes and the origins of human language.
