NCCR Travel Grant

Travel Grants are a funding instrument of the NCCR Evolving Language and are intended to financially support NCCR researchers to attend a scientific event.

Travel Grants and Conference Costs Funding are two distinct funding schemes within the NCCR Evolving Language.

Travel Grants are a structural measure of the NCCR Evolving Language aimed at supporting early career researchers in attending conferences. These grants are funded through the NCCR Education funds.

Conference Costs Funding, by contrast, is an administrative mechanism designed to increase the eligibility of conference-related expenses during SNSF audits. If a Conference Costs Funding request is approved, the expenses are charged to the relevant WP budget and not to the Education Funds. For this reason, confirmation from the responsible PI that WP funds may be used is mandatory.

Eligibility

Applications are open to NCCR-funded researchers (as defined in the RoP 4.13) and internal collaborators (as defined in the RoP 4.11). In order to be eligible for a travel grant, NCCR researchers have to make a peer-reviewed contribution to a scientific event (oral presentation or poster presentation).

Conditions

NCCR researchers can apply for grants of CHF 500 (travel within Europe) or grants of CHF 1’000 (travel outside Europe). In addition, the following conditions apply:
  • The NCCR Office awards a maximum of one grant per researcher and calendar year.
  • The NCCR researcher makes an active, peer reviewed contribution to the event (e.g., a presentation, poster, or similar contribution)
  • NCCR researchers must clearly state their affiliation with the NCCR in all presentations and related materials.
  • Applications can only be submitted for events taking place in the current calendar year.
  • Travel must be undertaken in second or economy class. For destinations within Europe, travel by train is strongly encouraged if the destination can be reached within one working day.
