The Writing Initiatives Grant is a funding instrument of the NCCR Evolving Language and is intended to financially support writing focused initiatives proposed and organised by Early Career Researchers (ECRs). These initiatives should aim to foster sustained academic writing, peer exchange and shared research practices within the NCCR community.
A total budget of for the whole NCCR to CHF 5,000 for Phase 2 is available. Funding may be awarded to one initiative or split across multiple proposals, depending on the scope and quality of the submissions.
Eligibility
Applications are open to ECR affiliated to the NCCR Evolving Language as NCCR-funded researchers or internal collaborators. Writing initiatives must be proposed and organised by ECRs and be relevant to the NCCR community.
Conditions
The following conditions apply:
- Writing initiatives should be planned to take place before the end of the NCCR, preferably in Year 7.
- Proposals may cover a broad range of writing focused activities, including but not limited to:
- regular writing groups or workshops
- recurring writing retreats
- writing workshops with follow up components
- While proposals remain open and flexible, initiatives that go beyond a single one off event and support writing as an ongoing practice are particularly encouraged.
- As the NCCR Evolving Language is geographically distributed across Switzerland, initiatives that are accessible across the NCCR are especially welcome. This may include online formats, hybrid solutions, rotating locations or other approaches that support broad participation.
Application procedure
Applications must be submitted via the Writing Initiative Submission Form below and should include one PDF each for the proposal and the budget.
The proposal (max. 2 pages) should include the following:
- Title and short description: What is the format and what will participants do?
- Continuity and sustainability: How does the initiative support writing beyond a single moment?
- Accessibility across the NCCR: How will participation from different NCCR locations be supported? What will the format be?
- Timeline: When will the initiative take place?
- Total budget (max. CHF 5,000)
- Budget breakdown by cost category
- Short justification of each cost
- Additional funding (if applicable)
After submission, the NCCR office will review all proposals and get back to applicants to discuss feasibility, budget, scope and possible next steps. The aim is not only to fund initiatives, but to support ECR driven ideas and help turn them into sustainable and valuable formats for the NCCR community.
If you are unsure whether your idea fits, please do not hesitate to contact the education office. We are happy to explore possibilities together.
Reimbursement procedure
Grant money may be used to cover costs directly related to the organisation and implementation of the writing initiative. Eligible costs may include, for example:
- travel and accommodation costs
- coffee breaks and light aperos
- accessibility related costs
All costs must align with the NCCR budget guidelines and reimbursement claims have to be made no later than two months after an event by using the NCCR reimbursement form.
