Learning about another form of self-expression: urban art in Biel
NCCR researchers discovering The Beauty and the Gloeb, by Sèyo.
On the 30th of June, researchers from the NCCR Evolving Language had the chance to explore the city of Biel through a singular lense: graffiti tags. Indeed, the city is famous for its numerous paintings on buildings. It is common for companies to request that graffiti artists paint their walls, and there are also public spaces where it is legal to tag.
Accompanied by local artists Sèyo and Robbie, they learned about the art of tagging, the history of urban art in Biel and the community around it. A perfect way to discover an underappreciated form of self-expression, meant to “put a smile on people’s face as they get out of their home“, as Sèyo says.
After the visit, the researchers could enjoy a drink in Le Dispo, a soon to be demolished warehouse, that is currently used as a alternative space for events.
